612 hp PIECHA AMG GT-RSR a design and technology hit

Particularly valuable sapphires are characterised by a dark blue colour, but like any gemstone they also have to be cut to sprinkle brightly. Analogously, PIECHA lent the Mercedes-AMG GT S some remarkable extras. And also analogously, the 4 Cs are all there: Car(at) – Cut – Colour – Clarity. So the PIECHA AMG GT-RSR is much more than just a visual highlight. “It is a masterpiece! Only think of its clarity and #design – both pioneering,” says the company’s chief designer and owner, Marcus #piecha. Every part is intriguing, but the whole is even greater than the sum of its parts.

Carbon fibres – a diamond’s sporty high-tech sibling

Carbon fibre composite materials – on the PIECHA AMG GT-RSR used all-over - are not only chemically related to diamonds but also in their appearance and robustness. The production front apron got “Air-Wings“ made of carbon and lets the air chutes appear wider. The downforce “Front-Cup-Wings“ with their slanted fins pointing upwards and the powerful central support also stand for both visual pleasure and pleasurable performance “The sides of this expressive coupé with its long bonnet are exciting and widen towards the rear without this being too playful,“ says #piecha. With a subdivision with an air chute and sills, this front #design has now been transferred to the rear. A highlight, literally, is the underfloor lighting through five perpendicular LED lamps in the side skirts when the car doors are opened or closed.

Aerodynamic expertise

For the striking RSR rear apron, PIECHA has reinterpreted the Mercedes-AMG GT’s #design. Creativity and a feeling for spaces aside, this also required much technical know-how. The completely closed underfloor panelling has been replaced by a mighty ultra-light carbon diffusor with an integrated reversing light whose striking fins reach almost as far as the rear axle and make for a much better downforce handling. Even more impressive in engineering terms is the very wide and aerodynamically highly effective rigid carbon rear spoiler: the kicker here is that the original retractable braking spoiler stays in place.

Technical extras in detail

The PIECHA coilovers also required much technical input in order to keep the complex electronic production shocks fully functional. Even the UHP tyres by YOKOHAMA, the partner that also provides production parts for many a Mercedes, are a special version of the ADVAN Sport V105. The

PIECHA AMG GT-RSR-approved version shows remarkable 275/35 ZR19 up front and 305/30 ZR20 in the rear and are geared to a top speed of 330 kph – officially!

612 hp and 330 kph

But not only the top speed is really quite impressive: the PIECHA performance module, developed in conjunction with PERFORMMASTER, is rated 612 hp (450 kW) and 840 Nm. “Going from naught to 100 kph only takes 3.7 seconds and presses you into your seat, with the milometer reaching top speed in a jiff,“ is how Marcus #piecha describes it. The soundtrack is provided by the exhaust system with its four hard-chrome-plated double-wall 90mm tailpipes as thick as an arm. Preferring a perfect sporty look, PIECHA has here done without the fashionable trapezoid shape.

The PIECHA AMG GT-RSR is a unique gem – not trendy but trendsetting in the purity of its #design.
