Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport at the Gran Premio Nuvolari 2016

The #granpremionuvolari 2016 will take place from 16 to 18 September. This famous international regularity #event for classic cars is dedicated to vintage vehicles manufactured between 1919 and 1969 and is a tribute to the "Flying pilot from Mantua", who scored his most legendary victories on Alfa Romeo vehicles.

Following tradition, start and finish will be in Mantua - hometown of the great pilot and also this year's Italian City of Culture - after #racing through some of Italy's most beautiful roads, following an over one thousand kilometre route that crosses Lombardy, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Umbria and Marche.

Organized by Mantova Corse, with collaborations from the Automobile Club Mantova and the Tazio Nuvolari Museum, the race registers over 300 participating classic cars. Among these rarities will be the precious 1928 Giulia 6C 1500 Super Sport, which belongs to the collection of FCA #heritage, the organisation that coordinates all the activities of the corporation on the classic car scene.

The 6C 1500 Super Sport #racing in the #granpremionuvolari, bodied by the Stabilimenti Farina, comes from the renewed Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in Arese (information and opening times can be found onwww.museoalfaromeo.com) and had already conquered the historical tribute to the Mille Miglia in 2005, in 2007 - winning the top position also overseas in that year, at the "Mille Millas Sport" in Argentina - and in 2008, for the eightieth anniversary of Alfa Romeo's first win in the legendary race in Brescia. The vehicle is equipped with a 6-cylinder, 1487 cc engine, which delivers maximum output of 76 HP at 4,800 rpm, reaching a top speed of 140 km/h. Between 1928 and 1929, 31 of these cars were produced.

The 6C 1500 model marks the debut of Vittorio Jano in the design of Alfa Romeo's Touring cars, after the spectacular sporting success of the P2 Gran Premio. Officially launched in April 1925 at the Milan Car Show, and in 1926 in Paris and London, commercial production of the 6C 1500 began in 1927. The following year, in its "Super Sport" configuration, the car won the II edition of the "Mille Miglia Cup" with Campari and Ramponi, the first of eleven Alfa Romeo victories in this classic road race, an unbeaten record to date. Also in 1928, the 6C 1500 won many international races, such as the "Belgian Touring Grand Prix" (24 hours) in Spa-Francorchamps with the Ivanowsky-Marinoni team, winning the race with 232 km advantage over the runner up, and the "Essex Club Six Hour Race" on the Brooklands circuit with Ramponi, a very popular "alfista" in England, who doubled his victory in 1929 on the same track course.

At the #granpremionuvolari 2016, the charming "6C 1500 Super Sport" will show up with the latest Alfa Romeo brand novelties- the Giulia and Giulietta models- thus highlighting the indissoluble bond between the past icons and the modern range.
