A collection that redefined the aviation watch space: Bremont introduces the MB Savanna in titanium

The partnership between #bremont and Martin-Baker has spanned over a decade and has not only become synonymous with the #bremont brand but celebrates the very best of pioneering British engineering and design. Starting in 2009, the unique partnership gave birth to a new generation of pilot’s watch, the #bremont MB. The MB Collection remains to this day the only mechanical timepieces to have undergone and withstood the rigours of live ejection seat launches. This summer the collaboration continues with the introduction of the MB Savanna.

Appreciating that for a pilot weight means everything, #bremont is offering for the first time the MB in Grade 5 Titanium. The tactile matt effect across the 43mm lightweight Special Edition is a choice influenced by both aesthetics and practicality. The MB Savanna incorporates an array of updated design elements to complement the case material change, elevating the MB to a new level. These features include an anti-reflective tactical protective case surface treatment, advanced ruthenium plated skeletonised rotor and a new colour palette fit for military purpose and inspired by the harsh Savanna environment and military camouflage colours. The mono-colour palette extends to the rubber strap, chosen for its durability and suitability for all conditions.

True to the MB range, the Savanna model features the distinctive knurled effect on the barrel and crowns inspired by components on the ejection seats themselves. Equally the yellow and black loop at the end of the second hand is a direct reference to the ejection pull handle, another signature design in the MB Collection.

Martin-Baker, the British aviation company responsible for supplying over 70% of the western world’s Air Forces with fighter ejection seat technology, is at the very pinnacle of British engineering and innovation; the now iconic #bremont MB range has redefined the aviation watch world. Never has a mechanical watch gone through such extensive testing, from live ejection launches to salt fog, vibration, temperature and altitude tests. #bremont Co-Founder Nick English comments: “The MB Savanna is an eye-catching piece of military candy and a fitting tribute to arguably the most successful pilot’s watch in the market used extensively by real military squadrons. Following the success of our MB collaboration we wanted to create a more lightweight model and put it through the full spectrum of MB testing to coincide with the development of the new MB seat programme – ensuring the next generation of the #bremont MB is more robust than ever. Along with the extensive testing done in the UK, we’re proud to say all case finishing and manufacture has also been done in the UK.”

With a history spanning over 80 years, Martin-Baker is still run by the late Sir James Martin’s descendants to this day. Originating as an aircraft manufacturer, Martin-Baker’s passion has evolved over the decades, now focussing on an issue very close to its founders’ hearts.

Andrew Martin of Martin-Baker recounts, “My grandfather was an innovative engineer who began producing aircraft in 1929. He always had a great desire to invent and make things with his own hands and, by dint of hard work and continuous study, was an accomplished engineer even in his teens. Whilst producing the MB1, Sir James’ friendship with Capt Valentine Baker was established, giving birth to Martin-Baker Aircraft Company Ltd. In 1942, during a test flight of the Martin-Baker MB3 prototype, Capt Baker was tragically killed. His death greatly affected our founder, who dedicated the rest of his life, and the future of the Martin-Baker company, towards pilot safety.

From the engineering ingenuity and integrity through to the family run nature of our respective businesses and of course the very close aviation ties, there are so many wonderful links between #bremont and Martin-Baker. The watch collection we’ve created to date is a testament to the phenomenal grounds on which this partnership was built and it continues to be a passion project of mine.”
