The elegance of a memory - Eugeni Quittlet designs Souvenir, the latest Pedrali collection presented at Salone del Mobile 2022

“Souvenir is a projection of our future dreams” (Eugeni Quitllet)

Available as a chair and as an armchair, Souvenir reinterprets the classic green chairs of the Jardin des Tuileries or the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Parisian icons known all over the world. Places of escape and serenity since the 18th century, these gardens offer visitors chairs and armchairs that can be moved at preference – a more comfortable alternative to the existing benches. Their management gave life to a job, that of “chaisièr”, the person responsible for their rental, which existed until 1974, when the chairs were made available free of charge. In 1923, the ateliers connected with Paris’ foundries created a new model of the chair, closer to the one we find there today.

Eugeni Quitllet echoes the iconic shape of these chairs, reinterpreting them through the use of a new material. The result is a monoblock made of polypropylene designed specifically for outdoor use. Very light yet extremely resistant, Souvenir stands out for its harmonious shape, integrating all its constituent elements in an organic and natural way. The soft shapes and three-dimensional slats make Souvenir particularly comfortable. The legs widen towards the bottom, where they merge with an attractive small foot.

The Catalan designer defines it as “a natural object that grew by himself in a very organic shape connecting all the elements and the functions of the chair in a very natural way. I think the three elements that define Souvenir chair is this timeless elegance, with a technological implications and contemporary functionality, which is the ecology, which is the stackability, the transport and the use everywhere in the world.”

In line with the company’s quest for environmental sustainability, Souvenir also comes in a “recycled grey” version made from recycled polypropylene material: 50% from plastic material post-consumer waste and 50% plastic material industrial waste.
