Shows Return and We’re Excited! To Meet In Person Once Again

As the end of October draws near, so too does the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS). One of the biggest yachting shows on the calendar, the 2021 edition of FLIBS will run from October 27-31 with an astonishing 1000 exhibitors. DLBA is proud to be in attendance, and we can’t wait to see you at the 62nd annual FLIBS. Also, at the end of October, the International Conference on Fast Sea Transportation (FAST) 2021 will be held on October 26-27 in #rhodeisland, this #event will feature a technical program with 23 great papers assembled by a committee led by our own director, #jeffbowles.

As DLBA’s Director, Jeff was also invited to speak on a recent panel assembled by the #yacht Club de Monaco and the IYBA (International #yacht Brokers Association) on what’s new in yachting. Drawing on more than 20 years’ experience in the yachting industry, Jeff was able to share the forces driving change in the industry today and the implementation of autonomy and Artificial Intelligence (AI), in the webinar which you can listen to at the link below. We’ve also recorded a webinar on the synergistic partnership between marine designer and builder which we invite you to listen to and, keeping with our theme of continuous learning, we’ve shared our webinar invitation for A Clash of Forces; In that webinar in November, we will discuss the meeting of traditional performance predictions and contemporary solutions which introduce AI to the toolkit.

DLBA has advanced to the next phase of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Long-Endurance Unmanned Surface Vessels program, which we’re excited to tell you about in more detail, here. Finally, we present a white paper discussion of pod drives and their application in the pleasure boat market.

Plenty to cover in this edition of the newsletter; we hope you enjoy and as always, we welcome your feedback.

Meet Us In Fort Lauderdale

It’s almost that time of year again, and we are all excited to be attending the 62nd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. With the show falling in the last week of October, the big show should be back at full power.

The first FLIBS started in 1959 with just 13 exhibitors, including five boat dealers who were trying to sell off their leftover inventory at War Memorial Auditorium. In 2021 FLIBS has grown to over 100,000 attendees, 1,000 exhibitors representing 52 countries with more than 1,300 boats on display and spanning over three million square feet of exhibition space—which totals more than an astounding 90 acres! Even during the pandemic, FLIBS attendees would not be deterred. In 2020, while many events saw significantly less attendance from their loyal followers, FLIBS only saw a 20% decline in attendance. As the country recovers from the pandemic FLIBS attendance will no doubt be even higher in 2021.

DLBA Naval Architects is excited to be joining in the mix to return with our display to meet with clients and other industry members.  We look forward to seeing the latest in yachting and just talking boats.  Come by our booth 636, we can’t wait to be back at FLIBS!
